Research shows CBD can assist in preventing hair loss

Using cannabis for medicinal purposes dates back to the dawn of recorded history, and potentially even further. Scientists are now trying to quantify these benefits by thoroughly researching the cannabis plant to see the ways in which it can truly help our lives.

A popular component of cannabis recently taking centre stage in studies is cannabidiol (CBD), and research is starting to collate which says that CBD oil could be very beneficial to achieve a healthy head of hair. It has been shown that CBD oil has plenty of positive benefits for the skin and scalp, which in turn indicates effectiveness in halting hair loss.

Using CBD for a healthy scalp

Research has been carried out that shows that CBD oil contains compounds which help common skin conditions, such as eczema and dermatitis. Both of which are known conditions that can cause significant hair loss if present on the scalp.

THC

CBD can prevent inflammation of the scalp when applied directly, which can reduce itchiness and subsequent hair loss. Because CBD is an anti-inflammatory, it also has been shown to help with medical conditions such as psoriasis, where the main cause of hair loss is due to inflammation of the scalp.

CBD can also help regulate the sebum production of the skin and scalp. Sebum is an oil that needs to be produced in the correct quantities. Too much sebum and the skin will be oily, too little then it will be dry. Therefore, CBD is good for use with oily, dry and normal hair types to ensure your scalp is producing the correct amount of natural oils for healthy hair.

Using CBD to enhance hair growth

When hair is growing at 100% efficiency, it requires a healthy balance of moisture and oils to be absorbed. CBD can help to stimulate the growth of hair due to its ability to provide the scalp with essential fatty acids – Omega-3 and Omega-6.

CBD also contains minerals such as magnesium and iron, which help to facilitate smooth blood flow within the scalp. This allows for a consistent flow of blood to the scalp to ensure the scalp is nourished with the minerals it needs to ensure growth is stimulated.

Using CBD to strengthen hair

Hair is made up of fibre, root and bulb. It is fibre that is most commonly referred to as hair. When looking at the scalp you can see the root, but the bulb is buried into the surface of the scalp. Each of these components of hair mostly consists of a structural protein called keratin, also what your nails are made of.

Vitamins

To keep this keratin strong, it requires a constant and healthy dose of vitamins. CBD oil is high in vitamins A, C and E, all of which are powerful antioxidants. All of these contribute to keeping the hair strong, and they are all in your full-spectrum CBD oil.

CBD as part of a haircare routine

There are numerous products available on the market currently which promote hair growth. However, it’s not a one size fits all because everybody is different. The full benefits of CBD for hair growth are currently being studied, but the addition of CBD to any hair care routine can only be beneficial due to its many properties in maintaining healthy skin and scalp as well as strong hair.

CBD may not help with hair loss caused through genetic baldness, although more research would be necessary to confirm this. CBD oil should be seen as something to add to a hair care routine if changes to the hair and scalp have been noticed, to try and maintain a healthy head of hair. if you want to create a white label cbd infused hair or beauty product in the UK we can help point you in the right direction.
